Kwaku Adjei, a 35-year-old man believed to be a drunkard, has been declared wanted by the Nsawam police for allegedly hacking his wife, Adjoa Okyerewah, 27, to death for divorcing him.
The horrible incident took place at Oboadaka in the Aburi District of the Eastern Region Tuesday morning.
A brother of the deceased, Kofi Samuel, told DAILY GUIDE that Ms Okyerewah Monday evening prepared some meal and was waiting for the husband to return from work before the two of them would eat the food; but the man was drunk when he returned from town so he refused to eat the food when he was served.
“The man then took the food from the bowl and threw it away, which infuriated the wife, causing her to insult the husband. She parked her things and went to stay with her family at Aburi,” Kofi Samuel narrated.
The brother of the deceased further hinted that the deceased, a fish monger, at dawn on Tuesday, was going to collect her debt at Adawso, when the man allegedly trailed her and hacked her with a sharp machete near a bush.
“We later got the information after my younger sister, who was on her way to meet Okyerewah at Adawso had spotted the husband hacking her. She raised an alarm for help but the husband ran away before the mob got to the crime scene,” Samuel added.
The Nsawam Police Commander, ASP Michael Dandy Zah, who led his men to convey the body to the Police Hospital in Accra for autopsy, told DAILY GUIDE that his outfit had instituted investigations into the matter to get Kwaku Adjei arrested.
